Volunteers from Solihull community group Shall We Talk are preparing to support this year’s Poppy Appeal by helping to sell poppies at St Alphege Church on Remembrance Sunday.

The plans were discussed during a visit by the Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Sardul Marwa, to members of the group.

A community group helping people settle in

Shall We Talk was established four years ago to support Solihull’s Hong Kong community and help new residents build connections in the borough, according to the council.

The group meets at Solihull Methodist Church on Mondays. Its sessions offer opportunities to make friends, practise conversational English and learn about local services. The council says they regularly attract more than 100 people.

Supporting remembrance

The Mayor welcomed the volunteers’ involvement and said local groups make a valuable contribution to civic life.

The Royal British Legion’s 2026 Poppy Appeal launches nationally on Thursday 22 October. It raises money to support serving personnel, veterans and their families.

Remembrance Sunday falls on 8 November this year. Shall We Talk volunteers plan to help with poppy sales at St Alphege Church that day.
