Solihull's Local SEND Reform Plan has been agreed by the Department for Education, the council has confirmed in an update to subscribers.

The announcement concerns support for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities. Jane Sowerby, the council's assistant director for education and inclusion, described the approval as a significant milestone and thanked those involved in developing the plan.

She said the council would continue working with others to strengthen services and improve outcomes for children and young people in Solihull.

Where families can find information

The council says information about the plan is available on its Local Offer webpages, which will continue to be updated as the work progresses.

The SEND strategic activity page includes an overview of the Local Area SEND Reform Plan, a September 2026 presentation for parent carers and a joint statement with Solihull Parent Carer Voice.

That page places the local work in the context of national education and SEND proposals, including earlier identification of additional needs, more inclusive mainstream provision, early intervention and family support.

The approval announcement does not set out a new start date, funding total or changes to individual children's arrangements. It confirms the Department for Education's agreement to the local plan, rather than announcing that every proposed reform is already in place.
