Drivers are being warned of a full weekend of planned M42 closures later this month to allow HS2 construction work.

Solihull Council's highways update says the restrictions are due to run from 9pm on Friday 23 October until 5am on Monday 26 October 2026.

Sections affected

  • M42 northbound between junctions 6 and 9.
  • M42 southbound between junctions 9 and 7.
  • The M6 junction 4a southbound link to the M42 in both directions.
  • The M6 northbound junction 3a link to M6 Toll junction T1.
  • M6 Toll southbound from junction T3.

The council says the traffic management will allow installation of bridge deck sections for the Water Orton viaducts in North Warwickshire and the final west-deck slide of the M6 South Viaduct in Solihull.

A fully signed diversion route is due to operate throughout the weekend closures.

Check before travelling

Drivers should plan extra time and follow signed diversions. Construction schedules can change, so travellers should check current notices before setting out.
