Weekly food waste collections have started in Solihull, with households asked to put out their outdoor caddy by 6am on their usual collection day.

Solihull Council says the service began on Monday 5 October 2026. Food waste is collected each week alongside whichever other bin is due, while general rubbish follows a fortnightly cycle.

Putting out your caddy

The grey outdoor caddy should be placed at the edge of the property, beside the black or brown bin, where crews can see it.

Households should have received a seven-litre kitchen caddy and a lockable 23-litre outdoor container. The council advises residents to number their outdoor caddy.

Who is included?

The initial rollout is for households. The council says flats using shared communal bins will receive food waste collections in 2027.

Residents who already compost can continue doing so. The caddies belong to the property and should be kept, even if unused, and left for future occupants when moving.
