A weekend closure of the M42 is due to begin at 9pm on Friday 30 October, affecting journeys around Solihull until 5am on Monday 2 November 2026.
Solihull Council’s latest highways bulletin lists the restrictions as part of its update on HS2 works. The closure covers junctions 6 to 9 northbound and junctions 9 to 7 southbound, including the links between junction 4a of the M6 and the M42.
When and where the motorway will close
- Starts: 9pm on Friday 30 October 2026.
- Ends: 5am on Monday 2 November 2026.
- Northbound: M42 junctions 6 to 9.
- Southbound: M42 junctions 9 to 7.
- Also affected: M6 junction 4a links with the M42.
The council says a signed diversion will operate throughout the weekend closure and access for emergency services will be maintained.
Anyone planning a journey through the affected junctions should check their route before travelling and follow the diversion signs. The different northbound and southbound limits mean the same junctions are not closed in both directions.
Other forthcoming local road restrictions
The same bulletin lists a closure on Henwood Lane in Catherine de Barnes, approximately 74 metres north of Bogay Hall, from 9am to 3pm on Tuesday 3 November. The stated diversion uses Hampton Lane, Catney Island, Friday Lane and Barston Lane, with the reverse route for traffic travelling in the opposite direction.
Norton Lane in Earlswood, outside numbers 176 and 178, is also due to close from 9am to 3pm on Friday 6 November for work to replace a telegraph pole. The diversion is via Fulford Hall Road and Rumbush Lane.
